Priestness...

Day 869:

Across town in Shimokitazawa, Menzou (麺僧) preaches a little-known bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen.

I was hoping for something more, but there was just nothing in the first place.

I won't be converting anytime soon.

Nothing beat basa...

Dyuruboxing...

Day 868:

As you may have realized, I've been a bit obsessed with the Dyurumen branches lately. And after trying Ikeda recently, I sought out to try their third branch, づゅる麺 AOYAMA.

The Tsukemen from Dyurumen Aoyama is all chicken-based and somewhat different from the others.

But like the others, the noodles are definitely the soul. I still like Ikeda in Meguro the best but none of the Dyurumen's seem to disappoint.

Din Tai Fung!

!!!

After a few dumplings it was time to meet up with Guy and Yuji at Inukendo in Shimokita.

Trouble peach?

Normally if you get this close to Yuji you'll get knocked out in less than 3 minutes. Thankfully we're not in a ring.

Cheese senbei!

Sakura?

I must be dreaming...

The return of Calvin and Jordan...

Day 867:

It was a beautiful day in Shinjuku.

A beautiful day for ramen.

A beautiful day for Shoyu Ramen at Shunmen Shiroha (旬麺しろ八).

It's a bit on the salty side, but they do ask if you want it adjusted. The noodles were a little on the hard side, but it wasn't a bad bowl. AND I did get a free piece of chashu for being the first customer of the day.

Calvin and Jordan...what a surprise!

This calls for a Beverly Hills Burger.

Minus the avocado and the egg. haha.

Pork by day, chicken by night...

Day 866:

After slurping a bowl at Yakumo yesterday, I walked by Warito (麺屋 和利道) and realized that they have a different soup base for lunch and dinner. I've been once for lunch to try their pork-based tsukemen, but their nightly chicken-based tsukemen piqued my interest.

Wow! I think I like the chicken better than the pork.

The relation to Tetsu is obvious, but Warito is definitely one of my top 5 favorite tsukemen shops.

Eight clouds...

Day 865:

On a day with more than eight clouds, I walked from Shinsen to Ikejirohashi in the rain to try a popular Shinasoba shop. Yakumo (八雲) is located a stones throw from Warito and apparently (like most Shinasoba shops in Tokyo) has a relation to the more famous Tan Tan Tei in Hamadayama.

The unique thing about Yakumo is that you can choose from two different soups: Black Dashi (黒だし) or White Dashi (白だし). BUT, there's also a Mix Dashi that is a blend of both.

I just went with the Black Dashi Tokusei Wontonmen (黒だし特性ワンタン麺) as this was my first time here.

It was great.

This is definitely shinasoba at its finest.

But does it outdo it's master? Hmm...I'll let you be the judge.

Back at basa I played around with a tonkotsu tsukemen. Wanna try it?

Umm, I thought I saw a ninth cloud around here somewhere...
