Day 497:
With only half the trains moving between limited stations and most of the shops closed, Shinjuku was eerily empty. As I learned when I got up early to go buy a certain someone something for White Day. There were news crews everywhere and people trying to leave Tokyo, but I continued my search without any luck.
Everywhere looked like this.
So what did I do? I gave up my search and instead went to go slurp some ramen to help crown the new Tokyo Ramen Champion!!
From the 49th floor of the Sumitomo Building.
I started off with a couple mini bowls with the first being from Tanaka Sobaten (田中そば店). A Kitakata-style shio ramen.
As with all Kitakata-style ramen, the chashu was splendid. The soup on the other hand was a bit too salty but overall a great bowl.
The second mini bowl was from Nantsuttei (なんつっ亭). Uni (sea urchin) Cream Miso Ramen.
Yes it sounds good and it was good, but it seems as though the uni cream was just layered on top of the chashu and not actually used in the soup. I was a little disappointed but oh well.
After the two mini bowls, I felt like I could use a whole one. So for my third bowl I chose to skip Keisuke and ordered the Goku Buto (thick) Chashumen from Kibi (支那そば きび).
I should have gone with Keisuke. I wasn't really feeling this ramen. I expected the chashu to be a little more moist than they actually were. The tomatoes were a nice idea, but I was too full to really care for them. All in all, I'd say Tanaka was the best. Plus he's a really really nice guy.
Hello assistant. See you later.
As I approached Bassanova, the line for the gas station was crazy long. Do you see the shell station on the right?
Well there was of line of cars backed up all the way to the Family Mart on the very left of the pic.
Should we be worried?
