Day 891:
Hakata!!! It's my last day in Kyushu and I'm gonna make the best of it.
About a 15-minute walk from Hakata Station down Taihaku Dori is a legendary shop called Genki Ippai (元気一杯). This is what the shop looks like when it's open. Yup, it was really hard to find.
Apparently, this blue bucket outside means that it's open. Also, you aren't allowed to use cell phones or cameras in the shop at any time so, unfortunately, I couldn't get a shot of the ramen. There are some strict rules of slurping here as well. You MUST start by drinking the soup first. As this shop claims, the soup is "the soul" of every bowl. The ramen was...incredible. There was a layer of oil on top that made it look like the tonkotsu was floating within the bowl. I really wish I could have shown it to you. It was remarkable and I highly recommend stopping in if you ever go to Hakata. And remember to look for the blue bucket! (ps. the spicy takana is...HOT!!)
On my way to Canal City I walked by a parking lot of yatai. Can't wait for tonight!
Raumen Stadium!!
Oh yeah, I'm a ramen chef! Wait a minute...
Nakasu! As much as I wanted to eat another bowl at Canal City...
I had to resist.
For this!
Motsu-nabe!!
Quite possibly the best motsu-nabe I've ever had. Crap, time to go home.
But wait! I still need to slurp at one of the yatai's!
Our taxi driver recommended Okei (博多屋台おけい).
And you know what?
Okei is okay by me. Usually the ambiance of being in a yatai overwhelms the actual flavor of the ramen, but this bowl was pretty legit. Thanks taxi driver!
Is it just me or are there a lot more yatai's than I remember?
So I ended up missing the last local train... Shinkansen!!
It cost a little more, but paying more for the Shinkanses to eat ramen at a yatai was worth it. And at least I didn't miss my flight!
I arrived with a spade and now depart with a heart...
いらっしゃいませ!
Welcome to my ramen dream... Currently being interpreted in Ramen Burger Land... Looking for a good slurp? Email me ! - Keizo

Yaki-Curry dreams...
Day 890:
After a short nights rest I tried to go slurp a bowl at the most popular shop in Yukuhashi, Mendokoro Kanadaya (麺処 金田家). But they were closed due to an emergency at their home. Oh well.
So I went to go check out the local museum instead. It's too bad they weren't closed too. haha.
Anyway, Big Boss picked us up and took us to Rai Rai Ken (来々軒) in nearby Kanda. This shop has been around for years but the old man who used to run it recently retired and handed over the reigns to his younger counterpart.
Which may explain the funny cartoon on how a proper bowl should be slurped. It basically says this: (1) There's no kaedama so if you're hungry order the large size; (2) When your bowl arrives, start by sipping the soup; (3) Then slurp the noodles; (4) If you want to change the flavor of your soup, just add umeboshi.
Yup, free umeboshi!!
There's nothing like a bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen for breakfast.
Still a slightly thicker noodle compared to the south.
Surprisingly, the umeboshi made it taste a lot better. But maybe that's because I love umeboshi.
Mojiko!! Okay, so I heard that Mojiko was famous for a dish called Yaki-Curry. Well, it's basically curry, but baked in an oven. Oh and there's a layer of cheese on top that makes it like a sort of curry lasagna.
Located right across from the station was a restaurant called Bear Fruits, which is just one of 100 or so shops in Mojiko that serve this stuff.
Anyway, there's only one way for me to describe how good it was...for a moment it made me forget about ramen. lol.
Go Yaki-Curry!
Back in Yukuhashi is was time to meet up with an old friend and mentor.
Harada-san!!!
