A mountain of youth...

Day 1204:

Feeling better, there's only one thing to do. Slurp.

Isoji in Yoyogi is a great backup for when I'm craving tsukemen at this hour. Miso Tsukemen (○得つけめん) to be exact.

Ahh it feels good to be without the flu.

Later in the night, I decided to go visit a friend's shop in Saitama--Zuizan (中華蕎麦 瑞山) in Asaka.

Hatsugai-san!!! We sat next to each other at the 2012ラーメン店主忘年会 and became instant friends!

Tokusei Chuukasoba (特製中華そば).

Damn.

This is good.

Damn.

I wish I could make ramen like this.

Hatsugai-san arigato!!!

I love life.

White eyes...

News Flash! The awesome team over at newyork-tokyo.com have put together an NYT GO: RAMEN tour "exploring Tokyo through ramen!" for 7 days from March 23-29. So if you live in New York and have the time you should definitely do it! AND the tour makes a stop at Bassanova!!

Day 476:

I woke up and began the day with a white-eyed look at the ramendb and was surprised to learn that Mejiro (七重の味の店 めじろ) was only a few stops away in Yoyogi. I then remembered how Nate had tried it just over a year ago so I decided to go check it out too. Speaking of Nate, I miss that fool and his detailed posts! Come back to Tokyo yo!

Mejiro serves a decent bowl of simple shoyu ramen. Somehow though, it tasted extremely similar to Jiraigen.

With purportedly "seven layers of flavor," there was a lot going on in this bowl but not enough to deserve an applause.

I'd have to agree with Nate and say that the fried onions were a bit overpowering. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Anyway, it was time to defrost the green curry ice.

Wow, it works!

Next stop...Okinawa!!!
