Bladesmithing day one...

Day 1245:

Pay close attention...

Because not many people get to see this.

Bladesmithing.

An ancient tradition in Sakai, Japan.

Where knives are still made entirely by hand.

Thanks to Will and his connections...

I got to see the dying art with my bare eyes.

Bam!

Lunch break.

Chanpon!!

Ikeda-san is a master blacksmith. If you've ever bought a high quality knife made in Sakai, chances are he forged it.

職人。

Crazy.

Custom knives forged by Will Shear and Ikeda-san.

And tomorrow we sharpen.

Over 300 years of experience to my right. Amazing!

For dinner Will and I decided to make the trek to Kobe so I could say hi to some friends.

Shoki!!

Fumi-san!!

Tan Tan Men.

Delicious!

Ueyama-san was still in Hawaii finishing up their event at Shirokiya, but Fumi-san was holding it down.

Kobe beef?

Will couldn't leave without some.

  1. I got to try Shoki's tan tan at Shirokiya. Good stuff! Tsujita Nidaime just finished their stint. I'm waiting for Bassa in Hawaii!
