Day 1227:
What is a trip to NYC without a visit to Ippudo.
I got a lot of heat for not including Ippudo NY on my recent top 5 list, but c'mon!...it's Ippudo!
Hey it's lisaj!!!
Today I ordered the Kogashi Miso Ramen.
It's the same kogashi miso from the Ippudo produced Gogyo, but like all the other ramen here...
It tasted a little weak compared to it's Japanese counterpart.
Anyway, off to Chinatown!
Hey it's Crash!
Whole Foods!
Yes, at the Whole Foods in the Lower East Side, ramen has taken over the food court.
Yuji Ramen that is.
For the next couple months Yuji will be using Whole Foods as his test kitchen serving up some unique creations like this Bacon and Egg Mazemen.
And a Daily Shoyu Ramen with today's being a dashi made from monkfish and lamb.
Unique ideas and creative visions, taking ramen to new levels.
Go Yuji!
いらっしゃいませ!
Welcome to my ramen dream... Currently being interpreted in Ramen Burger Land... Looking for a good slurp? Email me ! - Keizo

NY street ramen contest 2012...
Day 1076:
Round 3 of the NY Street Ramen Contest was in full-effect. And I just had to go check it out.
On this day, there were a total of nine shops competing for a spot in the finals. I pondered being a part of this with some friends of mine, but with the FoodFilmFest coming up it would have been too difficult to prepare. Maybe next year!
Anyway, the contest was packed!! Yeah, they weren't kidding...ramen in NY is HOT!!
After greeting with some friends of mine, it was time to get in line.
Italian Ramen from the Ramen Lab. (Chicken and pork base soup with tomato, basil, and grated cheese)
Yaki Ramen from Hakkoan. (Salmon, mushroom, cabbage, carrot, garlic, onion, and miso)
Shoyu Ramen from Asahikawa Ramen. (Shoyu, olive oil)
Spicy Miso Ramen from Jin Ramen. (Chicken & pork base miso soup)
Dark Men from Tabata Noodle. (Black sesame paste flavored soup, roast pork & chicken, scallion)
Shoyu (Jiro-kei) Ramen from Yume Wo Katare. (Pork base soy soup, cabbage, garlic, bean sprout, chashu pork)
Tonyu Herb Ramen from Tonyu Ramen. (Pork base soup, soymilk, paprika, mushroom, spinach, and Alfalfa)
PESU Ramen from Colorful Ramen. (sorry, I didn't get to try this because the alien scared me)
Alex York!!
A big THANKS to everyone that made it out here to meet me today!!
Ramenate!!!
Hiro!!!
Yamachan!!!
Steve Schiltz!!!
Kenshiro!!! Go Sun Noodle!!!
Kelly!!! (If you're wondering, she's my writer...)
JapanCulture-NYC.com
On my way out, I ran into this guy. Ivan!!!
After the ramen contest I tried to make it back to Brooklyn for the Bacon Takedown, but unfortunately I was too late. So I went to Zuzu Ramen instead. (btw, is this a new trend for shops not to have signs?)
Haven't I seen this light before?
Green Curry-Miso Ramen.
It's definitely no GCS. And it reminded me more of pho than ramen.
But I still killed it.
Woah, look who I ran into!! lisaj!! and moca!!!!!
This calls for a falafel!
Hmm...falafel ramen?

Sweets and sours...
Day 468:
Shibuya. Not for the agoraphobic.
Perfect egg? I instantly thought of Kugatsudou (らーめんと甘味処 九月堂).
Kugatsudou is more like a cafe than a ramen shop. It's perfect for couples and families.
The Kotteri Ramen that I didn't get to try last time was a thick tori paitan style similar to the likes of TenIchi but with a little more shoyu prowess.
lisaj got the Assari version. Sweet lisaj!!
Here's another up close look at the Kotteri version. (Sorry, no up close looks at lisaj.)
The noodles are outstanding...of course they are. And the eggs are almost perfect. I swear, they must inject something sweet into the yokes.
Everything here is sweet.
Alright time to go browse the department stores and their crazy Valentine sections. Have you heard about Valentine's Day in Japan? Yeah, but I'm still American.
I think the assistant would look good riding this.
Anyway, Max is leaving!!! After three years of working part time at Bassanova, Max will finally graduate from college and begin a career as a true salary-man. So tonight, we celebrate! 送別会!
Big!
By the way, Katsu (克ツ) the nearby izakaya has some really good food and great service.
おつかれマックス!!
On my home I stopped by Ryu-chan to say hi to Jake-san. I was craving his miso curry ramen pretty bad.
And Nobo (my apprentice) decided to join me while everyone else stumbled home.
I could eat this everyday.
But why does my mouth taste so sour?
Shibuya. Not for the agoraphobic.
lisaj: let's do a ramen night soon!me: Yes! maybe next week sometime?
lisaj: next week sounds good. what night works for you?me: are u busy sunday afternoon? any preferences?
lisaj: perfect! hmm...something on the lighter side and maybe with the perfect egg? anything really. surprise me.me: Shibuya @2pm. Hachiko.
