Day 18 - Driving through Kumamoto then Kurume

I'm staying at a friend's house in Fukuoka without an internet connection and I have been trying unsuccessfully for hours to borrow someone's wifi. I finally found one but it keeps cutting me off so I'll make this quick. I left Miyazaki this morning en route to Fukuoka and stopped at Kumamoto and Kurume along the way. I wish I could have stayed longer but I guess that's just how things turned out. Tomorrow will be fun in the sun in Hakata! At least I hope so cuz there may be rain in the forecast. Anyway, sorry I can't write more. Both bowls I ate today were very good. Enjoy the slideshow.

  1. I love your blog! I'm so jealous of your trip. Some day I'll make it down to Kyushu and just spend a week getting fat in Kurume and Fukuoka. If you've got the time between bowls, check out my ramen blog - http://waseda-ramen.blogspot.com ; I live in Tokyo and I'm trying to eat my way through every single shop in Takadanobaba (though I haven't been to Takaryu yet...). If you get back to Tokyo and have time to grab a bowl, let me know!

  2. yo keizo! welcome to kyushu! too bad about the photos at taiho. the first time i went there, they were pretty cool about picture taking, and even posed for shots. when i went back sometime later though, they said no photos (i think by then they'd either changed policies or managers or both), at which point i just feigned ignorance and started speaking in english. if you get in a bind, play the gaijin card. it works... sometimes LOL. glad you liked the ramen though!

  3. @Nate: Thanks! Checked out your blog and I like! Shoot me an email if you want to meet up.

@rameniac: Thanks dude. Yeah, Taiho was pretty intimidating. I thought they were gonna cut off my pinky and throw it in the soup. haha j/k. The ramen was good though. It's much better in person. I think next time I'll just start speaking Spanish...lol.

  4. Hi Keizo,

Nice report! :) Wow, so Taiho was really serious... how did you manage to snap the Ramen after they warned you twice earlier (when you took the Sign and Menu shots)? (O_o) I'm glad you made it out of there in one piece! :)

  5. They were okay with people taking pictures of the food. You just can't take pics of anything else.
