Morning ramen...

Day 284:

I'm no stranger to morning ramen or 朝ラー (asa-raa), as they say here in Japan. In fact, if I were on a normal work schedule, I'd probably hunt down all the best spots for asa-raa not named Ichiran. Anyway, I was up early and on my way home from a freakish night when suddenly...

I was lured in by this gigantic bowl of パーコーラーメン (fried pork ramen). Mansei (万世パーコーラーメン) is located in Shinjuku station as you walk down the steps to the Marunouchi Line on the westside.

It's times like this that make me never want to leave Japan. Ramen. In the morning. For less than 800 yen. Good or bad there's nothing like it in the states.

The actual ramen here is sub par, but the fried pork is legit. The way it stays crunchy within the soup is what matters most. I usually stay away from ramen within train stations, but I think I could see myself going back here.

When I got home I took a long nap and had a dream I was eating a bowl at Eifukucho Taishoken. So what did I do when I woke up?

I made my dream come true.

After work, I hung out with her until 6am...(sorry, no pics)

  1. I tried the pa-ko tan tan men at chin ma ya gardena it wasn't bad but the sesame paste in the soup was much too bitter.. Anyway the pa-ko gives a new meaning to tonkatsu ramen that people here keep mispronouncing, haha.
