Day 1127:
With all the Jiro wannabe's out there, some say Senrigan (千里眼) near Yoyogi-Uehara is among the best. I've tried to come here a couple times in the past when my bro used to live nearby, but it was either during their day off or during their break. I don't offer crave Jiro-kei, but today it was calling me.
Believe it or not, this is the normal portion. I ordered the Buta Ramen (豚ラーメン) with ninniku (garlic) and karame (stronger flavor). Can you imagine if I went yasai-mashi (more veggies)? Like all the Jiro and Jiro-kei shops, wait until they ask you if you want to add garlic. And if you want to keep it simple just shake your head no or yes.
The noodles are classic Jiro style--thick, wavy, with not much chew and a slight crunch.
I took my time with this bowl, but I did finish it. Someday I'll have to teach you a little technique I use in eating a bowl of Jiro-kei. Btw, the egg was stunning.
Back near where I live in Eifukucho, a new cafe featuring "California cuisine" opened. When I asked the chef what "California cuisine" meant he said he really didn't know. haha. And when I told him that I'm from California he said "oh, the owner of Spago owns this cafe." Really? Wolfgang Puck?
I'll have to go back there someday, but for now...some ramen. Kagetsu debuted a new ramen today called Yakuzen Hinabe Ramen (薬膳火鍋ラーメン).
Tenchi (天地).
Tenkou (天紅).
This is what happens when you're drunk.
いらっしゃいませ!

Summer soba...
Day 966:
Soba can sometimes be used to refer to ramen (i.e. chuukasoba, green curry soba), but you should never refer to soba as ramen. Yeah it's a little confusing but just trust me on this.
I met up with the president for lunch today and to change things up a bit he recommended one of his favorite soba shops in Kanda. Like ramen, soba is noodle-based but the two are entirely different breeds. I'll explain more on these differences some other day, but for now it's time to get in line!
Kasuga (そば処春日), as you can see above, is a popular shop that always generates a line. The Hiyashi Kitsune Soba (冷しきつねそば) is only available in summer and is perfect for beating the heat.
What separates Kasuga from the others is that the noodles have a lot more bite or "koshi". If you're in the Kanda area and want to take a break from ramen to try some authentic Japanese Soba, then Kasuga is worth a visit.
Tomato! So I had dinner with Yamamoto-san and friends again tonight, but for some reason this was the only good pic I took. haha.
On my way home I noticed a new Chinese restaurant, Hakuba (千客万来白馬), in Eifukucho that had ramen on the menu.
Midnight snack!!
Cantonmen.
Oyasumi!

The rabbit and the beast...
Day 788:
So I made it...to 600.
Yeah, you guessed it. Fitting right?
My last ramen of the year and bowl number 600 is none other than ET.
This will be my third new year in Japan. Time sure does fly. And as of now, I'm anticipating a fourth...
ET is a feast for any ramen beast. 来年もよろしくね!
It's party time!! It took four trips, but I made it.
BASSATICCIO!!!
What a way to bring in the new year. Making ramen for friends in a cozy bar while also enjoying a few drinks.
Thanks Yukachin!
Homemade gyoza too!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
First ramen of the year!! Deuces!
Time to hit the temple.
And drink some sweet sake. Rabbit seems to like it a lot.
Let the dragons reign begin...
I remember eating one, but did I really have two? haha.
What a night. Happy New Year everyone! Let 2012 begin!! 今年もよろしく!

Lights, camera...
Day 710:
In my history of sitting down at ET, I've only witnessed two guys at the helm. But today, the next longest tenured staff member was making everyone's ramen.
Could this mean he's ready to graduate and open his own Taishoken?
Back at basa, the TV crew was back to film around our kitchen.
Lights, camera, ramen!
Could you imagine my surprise when the director showed up in this shirt? Go Bruins! He also shares my mom's maiden name. Is someone trying to tell me something?
Yes, there's love in our soup.
Or is that Mickey?!

Summer storm...
Day 654:
A sudden storm rolled through with a thunderous roar, dropping several inches of rain and causing the temperature to drop at least ten degrees. When an opening appeared, I made it over to ET for a quick slurp. But that opening closed fast and I found myself riding my bike home in a relentless downpour. Without an umbrella it looked like I swam home using the nearby river.
The storm continued throughout the night so I stayed home throughout the night. I need to buy an umbrella.

ET challenge...
Day 587:
After work I stopped by Machida again to check out this place below. 食べログ said they opened at 5pm, but of course they opened at 6pm. So I walked around for an hour and saw some interesting stuff. Well not really. I mostly just helped some little kid fix his bike. Anyway, when I returned at 6pm there was a sign in front of the door that said something about the noodles not being made perfect so they would close for the rest of the night. %^&*#!!
Whatever. ET is always open for me.
Get the raw egg on the side and get creative. I like to add soup, shoyu, rayu, and pepper.
If you haven't noticed, ET's bowl is big! I dare you to try and finish a bowl faster than me. haha.
Is that a challenge, you ask? Actually, I'd like to see someone slurp this bowl in under 5 min. What do you say we all give it a try someday?

Sweetness...
Day 540:
Finally, a day off and a day to sleep in. But since I've gotten used to waking up early, I couldn't really sleep in. So what did I do? Haritts!
Then I went to go check on my apartment. Yeah, it's been awhile since I've been back there and Eifukucho station has changed a lot.
But not ET! You know I had to enjoy a bowl on my way back.
My apartment was fine but the sakura season is always too short. Someone should do something about that immediately. haha.
As I mentioned, tonight was my day off. My first day off since I started. Time for some meat!
Yakiniku!!
Then it was back to basa to hang out with the old crew.
It was good to see things back to normal.
As well as taste things back to normal.
Sweetness...
