Torori...
Day 752:
One of my most favorite ramen counters...
Supports one of my least favorite bowls...
But today it tasted better due to this torori chashu.
Now time to wash it down with something good.
More samples!
Over the past year I've developed a relationship with our noodle makers and today they begged me not to ever leave Japan. hahaha I wonder where that came from...

The power of Kentarou...
Day 726:
If I thought yesterday was crazy, today was even crazier. I can't remember the last time we had more than 5 people lining up outside before we opened. We had more customers in the first 30 minutes alone than all of last week's lunch shift. It was hectic, but Super Nobo and I got it done. Fun times!
And what are you looking at?
Between shifts I took a much needed nap and then stopped by Jake-san's for a bowl.
Today's total was 166 bowls served. It may not sound like a lot, but trust me that's normally unheard of at basa. おつかれさまです!

Wonton crave...
Day 722:
Lately, I've been craving a lot of wontons.
Maybe cuz Paul was just in town.
Anyway, we broke a record for a Wednesday night. It wasn't crazy busy, but it never died down. There were some customers who came in from seeing basa on TV, but we couldn't really gauge if the increase was purely because of Kentarou.
Anyway, I tried making our TWS with a sample tare that I got from Noodle World.
Not bad! I almost couldn't tell the difference.

Exact change...
Day 696:
"For those that pay with a 10,000 yen note or 5,000 yen note, I DON'T HAVE ANY CHANGE!"
We all love Jake-san. Recently, his tiny little shop has been featured on ads in the Keio line trains and things seemed to have gotten crazy busy.
But it's cool...we VIP!
And Jake-san finally realized that we give him a free egg when he comes to basa so today he gave me a free egg in return. Or did he?...hmm.
He is a clever man. But aren't we all?
The ramen you see above looks like all the others, but it's new...and it's good. And there are only two bowls left.

Onsen in Izukogen...
Day 692:
Without a typhoon in sight, the assistant and I headed back to Izu for a day at the onsen. But first we needed to fuel up.
Wontonmen!
Then we got to ride on the coolest train ever.
But I still couldn't figure out why everyone was taking my picture.
Haha, jk. Doraemon train!!
Four hours later we finally made it to Izukogen and our ryokan was only a short taxi ride away.
At check-in, we were greeted with some fresh green tea.
And then...we melted.
I cannot walk in these.
For dinner there was a 14-course meal awaiting.
Here are some of the highlights.
Time for bed.
Scratch that...time to get drunk in thehot tub onsen!

A heller of a day...
Day 675:
Business meetings are fun, especially when they involve family.
But why do we always end up eating noodles? ahaha.
After lunch I went home to catch up on some sleep, but then woke up with a mad craving for mabo spice, aka Mabo Ramen.
Then it was off to dinner to meet a longtime fan...
Who has quickly become a lifetime friend.
Thanks Richard!! It was an awesome night!
Old grand dad here agrees.
As do Hiroshi and Banana.
Honestly, I can't thank you enough. I've always looked forward to seeing your comments come through. Especially during those difficult times. Next time, we gotta kick it in 'upper belly'!!

Rated (R)amen...
Day 673:
As you already know, I eat a lot of ramen, but of the 380+ bowls I've already eaten so far this year, only a few have been instant. With that said, if you want to learn more about instant noodles go check out The Ramen Rater. "Instant" Hans just reviewed his 500th pack!
Anyway, I'm off to DT! (get it?)
An obvious descendant of ET, DT is just a less-refined, less-expensive version.
The wontons barely contain any meat, but there's something about them that makes it okay.
Nothing like an after work beer and GCS.
The rest of the night was rated pg...
