A Gacchamen! A what?

Day 36:

Day off!!

Nate, from the former waseda ramen blog now ramenate.com, was back from vacationing in the States, so we decided to meet up in Brian's hood and check out A Gacchamen. Yeah, it's a weird name and I have no idea what it means or how the owner came up with it. Perhaps it comes from 'hey i gotcha man' or something. Anyway, whatever. It's a miso ramen shop in Sengoku.

I ordered the Chashu Miso Ramen with a flavored egg. It's not Sumire, but it still left a pleasant taste in my mouth. The yuzu and ginger hanging from the edge of the bowl really added a unique taste that improved the flavor of the soup.

Nate ordered the Pepper Soba, a thick peppery ramen that tasted more like a Chinese noodle dish. The thick soup reminded me of umani ramen.

And Brian had the 1,800 yen special--Miso Ramen topped with wine-simmered chashu. I'm not sure if I'd actually pay that much for it, but damn that chashu was good!

Afterward we just chilled at Brian's pad to let the ramen digest.

And then for dinner I met up with a couple friends in Meguro to eat Ankou (Monk Fish) Nabe. So fricken good!

That was my day off.

  1. Gatchaman was the original version of the cartoon Battle of the Planets - one of my favorite cartoons ever. Ramen sure looks good. . .
