You're kidding, right? Nope. It appears that Menya Musashi has teamed up with Lotte's Ghana brand of chocolates and created Miso Ghana 2010 especially for the Valentine season. You can get the real thing at various Musashi locations around Tokyo (I think), but they only serve 20 bowls per day starting at 2pm. I came across the instant version a few days ago while meandering through the local Sunkus and was intrigued. So tonight after work, I finally tried it.
It still amazes me how far instant ramen has come in this country. I wonder when they'll start shipping these to the States...
It's funny to see how the chocolate chips are mixed in with the dried stuff like mushrooms and menma. So after you empty the red packet above on top of the noodles seen below, just add hot water, place the lid back on, and wait 5 minutes. The soup packet and the toppings are placed upon the lid to make them warm.
And there you have it, chocolate miso ramen...
It was actually quite good. The spiciness of the miso was brilliantly neutralized by the sweet creaminess of the chocolate. Wow...
The noodles were surprisingly good for an instant ramen too. I'll probably never buy this again just cuz I'd rather eat a real bowl than an instant one, but I encourage you to give it a try sometime. You'll be surprised.
It makes me want to go slurp the real thing now.
I'm open to chocolate in savory foods, but not too sure about this. I'd try it though!!
ReplyDeleteMan, now I want some ramen. As usual.
Please let us know when good quality instant ramen is available for shipping to the states! I'll take instant over nothing!
ReplyDelete@Chicken: I'll buy one for you to try when I get home. I think you'll like it!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: I'll definitely let you know, but who knows when that will be.
Hi Keizo,
ReplyDeleteSugoi. Choko Ramen?? That's just crazy. :) And I agree. When are we going to get better Nama and Instant Ramen here in the States? Sigh.
