Instant Ippudo by Nissin

I love Ippudo, but I'm not sure what to make of this instant version. It's quite impressive that they've even tried to duplicate the famous bowl in this flash-fried version, but it's not what you'd expect. Or is it?

It had all the components and was slightly more complicated to make than your average instant noodle.

I don't know. It just didn't do it for me. I think I'll stay away from this one. I recommend you only try it if you're desperate for something quick and only have time to stop at 7-11 (in Japan that is). Even then, I'd probably prefer Goota.

It caused more damage to my stomach than created joy for my mouth.

  1. At least they included the Akamaru toppings that make it unique...

  2. Ooh, thanks for the warning!...Actually, I'd love to know what your favorite instant ramen would be! I sometimes like to keep a few of them on hand in the house for when I can't get lunch or dinner together, but I still haven't really found one I like the flavor of. I'm big on shoyu, so if you have any preferences there in instant ramen, do please share!!! :)

  3. @Brian: True. I'll give them that one.

@Dateline Osaka: If it's not a 生 ramen, I would have to go with Myojo Chukazanmai. But for cup/bowl ramen, I like Goota. Maybe Brian could chime in on this too.

  4. I've never taken note of what instant ramen I eat. Every couple months or so I buy 5 or 6, and only eat them when I'm really hungry, which usually means drunk at home. Goota is very popular, and you can buy it almost anywhere. One's like this Ippudo Ramen are special, and harder to find.

  5. Hi Keizo,

Ouch! :( Sorry to hear the damage it wreaked on your stomach instead of being oishii... Thanks for the warning.

  6. A bit late on this post, I'm sure, but I just wanted to say that I'm a pretty big fan of the Ippudo and Sumire Miso instant ramen, though I did prefer Goota as well.

May I suggest that you give it another shot when you're sober, and simply too lazy to leave the kotatsu for more than a minute or so.

  7. I just finished this bowl of ramen for lunch. My friend brought it back for me from Japan cuz she knew I loveee Ippudo. The taste comes close to what the soup base would be like in the restaurant. The noodles, of course would taste better if it was made fresh, daily...but it's not too shabby. I enjoyed my ramen very much.
