Mabo spice...

Day 118:

I don't know why, but I woke up craving a mabo ramen. You might think that would be an easy craving to fulfill, but mabo ramen shops are not very common here in Tokyo. Usually, the only places that have it on their menu are Chinese restaurants. Luckily, there was a Chinese restaurant near my apt that served one so I decided to go check it out.

It turned out to be average at best, but it still fulfilled my craving. I think I'll even go back someday to try their Gomoku Soba. Someday...

I can't believe it's already March.

  3. Hi, Your site rocks. I saw this blurb in the latest Time magazine and was wondering if you have/will be able to check it out, despite the cost:

'It's my 25 years of experience distilled into one bowl.'

SHOICHI FUJIMAKI, Japanese restaurateur and chef, on his $110 bowl of ramen, which takes three days to prepare

  4. Looks like a bowl one could easily make at home. I've got a good mabo tofu recipe already. Just thin it out with some dashi maybe? Or just water and shoyu? Then add noodles. What do you think?

  5. @choisauce: 21 days?

@Dennis: Oh man I wish I could've gone with you. Did you talk with Murakami-san?

@WSP: that's exactly what it was.

@Anonymous: Thanks! That place has been on my list. Just need to save up a little more money. haha.

@MiguelRaton: Just take your mabo tofu recipe and lay it on top of a bowl of nama ramen. that's what i used to do.
