Day 494:
I was at the gym running on the treadmill when I suddenly started to get really dizzy. I first thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but once I slowed down and stepped off, it was a ride of a lifetime. Coming from LA I've experienced my fair share of earthquakes, but this tops them all. 8.9?? Crazy!
After we all evacuated the gym I decided to go see how Bassanova held up. Shuga was a bit dazed but nothing seemed to be broken. While we were assessing the damage another big quake occurred and just hearing all the clatter outside was unreal.
On my way home I stopped by Ryu-chan ramen to see if Jake-san was okay. He was watching the news and we were both shocked at what we were watching.
Fires in Chiba and tsunami's in Iwate. Crazy, crazy, crazy!
I need a bowl.
I pray for all those affected by this tragedy.
Wow, I've never seen a whirlpool before.
Since all the trains had stopped running, I rode my skateboard to see if the assistant was okay. Well I mostly just walked because the streets were packed with people trying to get home. The scene was amazing. I've never seen so many people walking the streets near my hood. Even the toads were frightened.
With the phone lines down, hopefully the rest of my family here in Japan is okay. Please email me if you are.
In the meantime, I'll be eating this yakitori.
And chahan.
Thanks to everyone who emailed me to see how I was doing. I'm okay. I really appreciate your concerns. I'm gonna sign off for now so please take care of yourselves too. Goodnight.
Hey Keizo, I am following your blog now for quite a while. Hope you are still alright. I have a good friend in Tokyo and her home suffers quite a lot from several damage. We, in Germany, are praying for your further safety and well-being.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from Germany.

ReplyDeleteGlad you're ok, Keizo. We were so lucky here in Okinawa to not have felt a thing. Unbelievably terrifying what happened up north though... we'll all be thinking of everyone up there.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your okay Keizo - I'll let the Proventure boys know.
ReplyDeleteglad to hear you and your family are all OK. i felt Loma Prieta in 1989 which was 6.9 and this 8.9 is 100x stronger!!! :-O
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely unbelievable. Poor Japan, it just goes on and on - earthquake, tsunami and now meltdown. Sending good thoughts your way and eating my own bowl of instant Ramen (hopefully yours will show back up in the shops soon) :)
