Emotional...

Day 499:

My nieces have made it safely to Okinawa.

Today was a very emotional day. I'm trying my best not to panic. I think I've done a pretty good job so far, but what I experienced this morning was something that I will never forget. Anyway, I'm over it now so I won't get into the details. Everyone (that's left) in Tokyo seems to be so calm. With the trains back up and running, life here almost seems normal. One would never think that a possible total nuclear meltdown is occurring just 220km away. Everyone who left Tokyo seems to be relieved yet adamant about having others leave as well. I've been getting my fair share of emails from family, friends, and even complete strangers to "get out of Tokyo!" Thanks to everyone for being so concerned. It's not that I don't want to leave, it's a bit more complicated.

At least ET is still open...

I guess I can never work here. I'm too tall...

Is this train ever going to come?

At work I made us some chashu onigiri's using Ishigami-san's sweat salt.

And then I got a call from the assistant. She had decided to evacuate to France tomorrow. So I left work to spend time with her before she left.

Although she doesn't want to leave Japan and her family, I respect her decision. I would also feel better knowing that she is safe. But I will miss her dearly...
